Tanong lang po…
August 29, 2008
TANGINA NIYO!
Song of the Day – Saosin’s You Are Not Alone
August 29, 2008
Emo naman…
You Are Not Alone
It’s just like him
To wander off in the evergreen park
Slowly searching for any sign
Of the ones he used to love..
He says he’s got nothing left to live for
(He says he’s got nothing left…)
And this time I think you’ll know..
You’re not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell
She’s just like him
Spoiled rotten
Confused by the lies she’s been fed
And she’s searching for no one..
(But herself)
Her eyes turn to green and she seems to be happy
That she is here
And this time I think you’ll know…
You’re not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell
You’re not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
(There is more to know)
We’re not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell..
(So tell me)
You’re not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
(Make it out)
You will live to tell
(Live to tell)
You’re not alone
There is more to this, I know
(And I know)
You can make it out
You will live to tell..
You are not alone.
You’re not, you’re not alone.

Movies, Movies… (Starry, Starry Ratings)

Hingang malalim, medyo madami ‘to…
Juno
Details, go here.
Fast Review: A movie that tackles the important issue of teenage pregnancy. Medyo nakakatawa yung pelikula but still it was able to seriously delve on the issue at hand. I also love the main character, Juno, who is this happy-go-lucky-type of girl who doesn’t care about what other people will say as long as she’s having fun and enjoying herself. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
Zoolander
Details, go here.
Fast Review: One of my all-time favorite Ben Stiller film, tungkol ito sa isang medyo tangang male model. Medyo na-discuss din ng pelikula ang issue ng child labor, in a very funny and quirky way. Siguradong sasakit yung tiyan nyo sa kakatawa with this one, especially with all the stupid lines na ibinabato ng mga characters lalo na si Stiller. My favorite was the one when he was offered her very own reading center. Ipinakita sa kanya yung model nung building to which he reacted, “What is this? A center for ants! How can you expect children to learn how to read, if they can’t even fit inside the building?!” Panalo! Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.
American Beauty
Details, go here.
A sexy movie that deals with a very serious matter, talagang mapapaisip ka sa pelikulang ito. And as far as kung ano ang napulot ko sa pelikula: hindi dapat natin gawing seryoso ang buhay natin. As much as possible, we should enjoy it. Don’t believe that stupid saying about life starting at 40, because some of us may be dead by that time. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
What Happens in Vegas
Details, go here.
Fast Review: Okay na sana yung pelikulang ito, though it’s a chick flick. It’s funny, it’s sexy and it has Cameron Diaz in it. However, the lead guy is that annoying Punk’d dude which basically ruined the movie for me. I just hate that guy. The movie itself: tolerable if you don’t have better things to do. It will make you laugh and medyo may kilig factor na din. Pero if asked kung ire-recommend ko ba yung pelikula sa ibang tao? Siguro to some who is not easily bored by shallow things, pwede. Pero if you’re looking for something na medyo mapag-iisip kayo, this movie is not for you. Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
The Forbidden Kingdom
Details, go here.
Fast Review: I don’t really know what to say about this movie. Natulog ako habang pinapanood yung pelikula. I just though na masyadong cliche ito nung kung-fu genre at underdog films kaya tinamad ako. Buti na lang hindi ako napilit ng baby ko na panoorin yung pelikula dati sa sine kasi magiging malaking aksaya lang pala. Don’t get me wrong, I may not be a big fan of kung-fu flicks, Jacky Chan and Jet Li pero I still enjoy once in a while yung mga ganitong pelikula. Not just this fillm though. Rating: 0 out of 5 stars.
27 Dresses
Details, go here.
Fast Review: What can I say? I love Katherine Heigl. First saw her sa 100 Girls as this tomboyish chick, tapos sa Grey’s Anatomy. And now, she is definitely in full blossom. Lalo na sa pelikulang ito. It’s about a girl who is always a bridemaid, but never the bride. Another thing I liked about this movie is that it basically wanna say that life is not about making other people happy, but making oneself happy. Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Fast Food Nation
Details, go here.
Fast Review: I actually thought that this film is a comedy. But watching it, it turns out that this is a film that has a political statement. It’s a social realist movie that deals with ills of industrialism, social inequality and animal cruelty. It also features some big stars including Bruce Willis, Greg Kinnear, Wilmer Valderrama, Ethan Hawke and even Avril Lavigne. I definitely recommend this movie to everyone, especially at this time of crisis. Medyo puro usap nga lang yung pelikula pero in that way, naging hard-hitting pa rin siya. A little warning though to all those squeamish people, there is a long scene of brutal cow butchery by the end of the film, na pwedeng hindi magustuhan ng iba. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
Song of the Day – Meshuggah’s Bleed
August 28, 2008
Something different muna…
Bleed
Beams of fire sweep through my head
Thrusts of pain increasingly engaged
Sensory receptors succumb
I am no one now — agony
My crimson liquid so frantically spilled
- the ruby fluid of life unleashed
Ripples ascend to the surface of my eyes
Their red pens drawing at random, at will
A myriad pains begotten in their wake
- the bastard spawn of a mutinous self
The regurgitation of my micro nemesis
- salivating red at the prospect of my ruin, my doom
Malfunction the means for its ascent
Bloodletting the stringent voice to beckon my soul
So futile any resisting tension
As death-induced mechanics propel its growth
The implement, the device of my extinction
- the terminating clockwork of my gleeful bane
The definitive scourge of its mockery
- the end-art instruments lethality attained
Heed – it commands, heed my will
Bleed – it says, bleed you will
Falling into the clarity of undoing
Scornful gods haggle for my soul
Minds eye flickers and vellicates as I let go
Taunting whispers accompany my deletion
A sneering grin, the voice of my reaper
- chanting sofly the song of depletion

Though UP won in blow-out fashion against the AdU Falcons last Thursday, it’s very sad that the Fighting Maroons season ended last Sunday after losing to ADMU Eagles, finally deciding their fate for the Season 71 of the UAAP men’s basketball tourney. Maraming nagsasabi na it was definitely a big improvement in UP’s part already winning 3 games after the winless record last year. Pero for an alumnus like me, it’s still very sad kasi antagal ko nang hinihintay na makapasok ang UP sa Final 4. Pero I guess I just have to wait one more year for this to happen. Sana naman, next year ayus na…
For the mean time, yung cheerdance competition na lang muna yung hihintayin ko…
UP FIGHT!!!
Song of the Day – Jimmy Eat World’s Work
August 26, 2008
Back to reality… Back to work…
Work
If you only once would let me
Only just one time
Then be happy with the consequence
With whatever’s gonna happen tonight
Don’t think we’re not serious
When’s it ever not
The love we make is give and it’s take
I’m game to play along
All I can say
I shouldn’t say
Can we take a ride?
Get out of this place
While we still have time
oh oh, oh oh oh
oh oh, oh oh oh
All the best DJs are saving
Their slowest song for last
When the dance is through
Its me and you
Come on would it really be so bad
The things we think might be the same
But I won’t fight for more
Its just not me to wear it on my sleeve
Count on that for sure
All I can say
I shouldn’t say
Can we take a ride?
Get out of this place
While we still have time
You want to take a ride?
Get out of this place
While we still have time
Yeah – We still have time
oh oh (ahhhhhhhh)
oh oh (ahhhhhhhh)
oh oh (ahhhhhhhh)
oh oh (ahhhhhhhh)
Can’t say I was never wrong
But some blame rests on you
Work and play they’re never okay
To mix the way we do
All I can say
I shouldn’t say
Can we take a ride?
Get out of this place
While we still have time
You want to take a ride?
Get out of this place
While we still have time
We still have time
oh oh, oh oh oh
oh oh, oh

Song of the Day – Wham’s Wake Me Up Before You Go-go
August 22, 2008
DAMN! I have to watch Zoolander…
Wake Me Up Before You Go-go
You put the boom-boom into my heart
You send my soul sky high
When your loving starts
A jitterbug into my brain
It goes a bang-bang
Till my feet do the same
But something’s bugging me
Something ain’t right
My best friend told me what you did last night
You left me sleeping in my bed
I was dreaming but I should have been with you instead
Chorus:
Wake me up before you go-go
Don’t leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don’t wanna miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
‘Cos I’m not planning on going solo
Wake me up before you go-go
Take me dancing tonight
You put the grey skies out of my way
You make the sun shine brighter than Doris Day
Turned a bright spark into a flame
My beats per minute never been the same
‘Cos you’re my lady
I’m your fool
It makes me crazy when you act so cruel
Come on baby lets not fight
We’ll go dancing
Everything will be alright
Chorus:
Cuddle up baby, move in tight
We’ll go dancing tomorrow night
It’s cold out there but it’s warm in bed
They can dance
We’ll stay at home instead
Chorus to fade

An Inconvenient Truth
Details, go here.
Fast Review: One of the most hard-hitting docus about global warming, An Inconvenient Truth tells the tale of the how the Earth is slowly dying because of the same people who are supposedly the guardians of this planet. A film by former US Vice President Al Gore, hindi nakakapagtaka na medyo may mga political na banat si Gore against some of his political opponents including George Bush. Pero if you look past that, isang magandang pelikula ito na sasampal sa bawat isa tungkol sa isang malaking porblemang dapat na nating aksyunan. The main theme of this movie is that global warming may be a big problem, but it is nothing that we all can solve if we act together and act now. A must-see for every human being in this planet.
Horton Hears Who
Details, go here.
Fast Review: Voiced by funny man Jim Carey, Horton is anĀ elephant who started hearing something from a speck on top of a clover leaf. As it turns out, he is hearing the people living in another world – a very small world that exists in just a speck. His objective is to transport the speck to somewhere safer so the Who’s, people living on the speck, can live a longer and less traumatic life. The catch? No one believes Horton and everybody thinks he is crazy. Though this movie is a comedy by nature, it also teaches everyone that all you have to do is believe in something or someone for it or them to be successful and happy. A feel-good, funny movie suitable to anyone, kids and kids at heart alike.
The Hottie and the Nottie
Details, go here.
Fast Review: The movie that sunk more than the Titanic (the ship, not the movie). This one stars Hollywood socialite and bad girl Paris Hilton as the perfect girl who is loved by everyone but no one can really love. That is because she vowed that she won’t get hitched unless her super ugly friend starts going out on dates. At dahil panget nga siya, walang nagtatangka. Nobody until one guy, who happens to be both the hottie and the nottie’s first-grade classmate went back to town after finally getting the courage to come out with his feelings to Paris’ character. It was a rollerscoaster ride, if you will, that ended up with the guy falling in love with the nottie, who became hottie too for some reason. Puno ng cliche yung pelikula, though may mga eksena na nakakatawa talaga. Medyo malabo din yung pagpapakita nila nung supposed lesson nung movie which I think is honesty. It tries to tell the audience that if you have feelings for someone, you just have to be honest about it and go for it before you miss your chance. I’ll admit that this is not a good movie at all. Pero pag wala kayong magawa ang you would like to just laugh, this might actually work.
The Truman Show
Details, go here.
Fast Review: One of my favorite movies of all-time, this stars Jim Carey as Truman Burbank who is a guy who is living his life as part of a huge television show that he himself don’t have any knowledge about. It’s like Big Brother on a larger scale. It is about being true and wanting to find out the truth. I’ve watched this movie so many times but until now, hindi ko pa din ma-explain yung nakukuha ko galing sa pelikula. But I definitely would recommend this to everyone.
Song of the Day – Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On?
August 21, 2008
Awesome song by a very talented artist…
What’s Going On?
Mother, mother
There’s too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There’s far too many of you dying
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today – Ya
Father, father
We don’t need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today
Picket lines and picket signs
Don’t punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what’s going on
What’s going on
Ya, what’s going on
Ah, what’s going on
In the mean time
Right on, baby
Right on
Right on
Father, father, everybody thinks we’re wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
Oh
Picket lines and picket signs
Don’t punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see
What’s going on
Ya, what’s going on
Tell me what’s going on
I’ll tell you what’s going on – Uh
Right on baby
Right on baby
